Also there were grazing cattle in the BLM so it must have been farmed by someone which I’m sure is the reason for the fence even though it’s public access land. Our 3-day affordable cow elk hunts take place after the 4th season and run through the entire month of December. One surprise was the number of fencing that didn’t correlate to a property line, usually you just find a low spot or hold it down and step over. We ended up on BLM land camping by the vehicle but could certainly have hiked in and camped as well. Coming from Wisconsin, the first few spots I picked out were treacherously steep to get in - some almost to the point where we didn’t feel comfortable that we could find a good safe path. The Colorado Division of Wildlife has set the first or opening season as an Elk Only Season. People have mentioned the limited availability of cow tags already. Some licenses for elk, pronghorn, and bear are available without needing to enter the draw(s) and are not restricted in quantity (unlimited).
